Meditation...It's Easier Than You Think

No matter what you read, there is no right or wrong way to meditate. A simple meditation can refresh and regenerate you, leaving your body stress free in a matter of minutes. Have you ever got to into the car and driven home and when you arrived, you couldn't remember the details of getting there? (Feeling as if you had put the car on auto-pilot). Guess what? You were in a meditative state when you did that. Quietness and stillness aren't easy to achieve in today's modern world. We are constantly being bombarded with one thing after another, noise after noise. Most of us aren't able to physically escape to achieve this stillness and to slow ourselves down, we must learn to do this in another way. Meditating is that way! Slowing down our breathing is the key. Once you become more aware of your actions you find that you have actually been meditating throughout your day, if you find that you've "tuned-out" any time, you were actually in a meditative state.
Try this very simple meditation:
Stop where you are right now, close your eyes and pay attention to the sounds around you. Do you hear someone talking in the next room? A dog barking outside? A clock ticking? The washing machine? Concentrate on these sounds more and more, the deeper you concentrate the more you will hear, until finally you hear the sound of your own heart beating. Feel the rhythm of your heart and take a few slow deep breaths. Slow your breathing down by breathing in through your nose and gently out through your mouth. Feel yourself relaxing and when you feel totally relaxed gently open your eyes slowly. Congratulations! You actually meditated.
Meditating can be done any time (please don't do it in situations that need your full attention). You don't have to physically stop what you're doing and close your eyes. You can meditate in the line at the grocery store. Just bring your concentration to your breathing and slow your breathing down. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, feel yourself relax slowly. It can take practice to go through the steps and slow yourself down, but after a while it will come natural to you. A good time to do this also is at bedtime. If you have trouble falling asleep, re-living your day's events, concentrate on your breathing. If/when your mind starts to wander just bring it back to focus on your breathing and before you know it you will be asleep. This is like the old fashioned method of counting sheep but instead of concentrating on the sheep concentrate on your breathing.
After you have mastered how to do this simple meditation you can get adventurous, you can meditate by looking into the flame of a candle or you can go onto YOUTUBE or click on the following to be taken to this website: www.the-guided-meditation-site.com/ it states that "The Guided Meditation Site is a place for lovers of meditation, relaxation, personal development and spiritual growth. It's also a great resource for people who are new to meditation and who are looking for ways to rid themselves of stress and live happier, healthier, more peaceful lives."
As you can see below there are many different methods to meditate by, but I'd ask that you please try the "Simple Relaxation - A Guided Meditation" & "Guided Meditation -Deep Relaxation" YouTube videos below. I hope you find they help you get an idea of what meditation can do for you. There are many guided meditations on YouTube for you to try. May you enjoy your journey into meditation and all the health benefits you experience from it.
